Fight for Cure is an endurance event aimed at raising money for CURE. So many children all around us have endured the reality of cancer at a young age. We are fighting for them!

-----

This year we are fighting for Lily! Here is her story:

Lily's journey actually began in a dentist's office.

She had a swelling in her gums that we thought was an adult tooth, but after the dentist took an xray, they told us there was nothing to see and sent us to CHOA that same day.

After a week's worth of tests and a final biopsy of her gums, we got the call on the next Monday, October, 11th 2022, that she had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and that we had to come in immediately to begin treatment.
The type of cancer is called Acute B-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (ALL for short) and is a blood cancer cousin of Leukemia. We were told the treatment for this would be one of the most intensive and take over two years to complete. Our lives had taken a turn that no parent ever dreams about.

Lily was 5 at the time, but a super smart kid who was incredibly healthy before everything. So she was very confused as to why she had to stay in a hospital, get surgery, all these medicines that caused her so much pain and discomfort.

But we had good news. She had over a 90% prognosis when she was first diagnosed and was deemed cancer free after her first month of treatment.

The first 8 months were a nightmare. The hospital stays, the muscle loss, the fights over taking medicine at home, the fits before every appointment, the developing a routine that would make it as minimally traumatic for her as possible, the hair loss.

But in all of this, we would NOT have made it out the way we did without the wonderful staff of CHOA, along with all the resources we got, and still receive to this day, from CURE. The therapy services alone gave Lily a safe space to process her pain and us the ability to give her that space on our budget at the time.

Her treatments officially ended December 27, 2024 and she had her port removed January 17th, 2025. She is now over 6 months cancer free and counting.
